Gaspar Claus

© Alexandre Guirkinger

Gaspar Claus is a cellist, composer and sound explorer: a mad inventor, a sky-dancer, who soars amongst the stars armed with his instrument-friend, which he always plays against the grain, throwing it against himself in an off-beat dance. The son of flamenco guitarist Pedro Soler, he grew up in a world where music flowed freely between genres and generations. Trained on the cello from childhood, he quickly broke free from its constraints to turn it into an instrument of exploration, escape and dialogue.

As a film composer, Gaspar Claus has written the original scores for several award-winning feature films, including Makala and Le Fil, which have taken him to Cannes on several occasions. His first solo album, Tancade (InFiné, 2021), establishes him as a unique voice, blending soundscapes, sensitive avant-garde and raw emotion.

His discography, comprising nineteen releases, reflects a consistent taste for collaboration: he has worked alongside Rone, Barbara Carlotti, Keiji Haino and Serge Teyssot-Gay, amongst many others. He is also the founder of the label Les Disques du Festival Permanent, a haven for unconventional music and collective creativity.
