Opéra de Rennes
The Rennes Opera is a venue located in the city center of Rennes. It was designed by Charles Millardet and built by Pierre Louise. It is located on the “Place de la Mairie” and forms the main part of the eastern side facing the town hall.
Located on the central square of the city center, its originality is to be inserted in a real estate project including housing and galleries with a commercial function and protected by a glass roof, behind the opera house. Its other originality is that it adapts to the shape of the Rennes city hall: the opera house’s projection responds to the hollow of the city hall designed by Jacques V. Gabriel.
With an Italian-style auditorium and 642 seats, it is one of the smallest opera houses in France. Mainly focused on lyrical art, its attendance is close to 100%.
