Opéra de Rennes – Rotonde

The Rennes Opera House is located in the city centre of Rennes. It was designed by Charles Millardet and built by Pierre Louise. It is located on the Place de la Mairie, of which it forms the main part on the eastern side facing the town hall.

Located in the central square of the city centre, its originality lies in the fact that it is part of a property development comprising housing and shopping arcades protected by a glass roof, behind the opera house. Its other originality is that it adapts to the shape of the Rennes town hall: the opera house’s projection responds to the hollow of the town hall designed by Jacques V Gabriel.

With an Italian-style auditorium seating 642, it is one of the smallest opera houses in France. Mainly focused on lyrical art, its attendance is close to 100%.
