Experience is a programme of Maintenant dedicated to today’s digital creation as much as to early electronic experimentation and other inventive machinery. It’s a space for discovering experimental forms and a showcase for the avant-garde.
Second Breath, Myra-Ida van der Veen
Choreographic art & craft | Experimental music & vocal practices | Low tech collective performance
Second Breath is an audiovisual performance centred on breath, inspired by the anatomy of frogs. Dutch artist Myra-Ida van der Veen explores how air shapes our bodies, and how this experience can be used to create a community that cares for each other.
Myra-Ida van der Veen imagines instruments that wrap around the chest, trapping air and making it resonate. With 3 other performers, she proposes a ritual in the heart of darkness, guided by the light emanating from the instruments. In a trance-like environment that blurs the boundaries between choir, performance and choreography, Second Breath highlights the primal essence of the voice. A unique artistic UFO, this performance reveals the complex relationship between the human body and the ethereal vibrations emanating from within.
In partnership with FAIR-E – Centre Chorégraphique National de Rennes et de Bretagne and presented as part of Nord Sonore, adventurous music from the Netherlands, a project initiated by and supported by the Performing Arts Fund NL.
