Originating in the underground clubs of Los Angeles in the 1970s amongst the Black, Latinx and Asian queer communities, whacking is much more than a dance; it is an act of resistance, affirmation and sharing, an explosion of freedom and self-expression. Here, we strike the air with power, strike a series of poses like Hollywood divas, play with the music, our gaze and our attitude… and above all, we celebrate those who dare to be fully themselves.

For this unique evening, UNDER/GROUND is teaming up with the Maintenant Festival and giving W*ack in Rennes carte blanche to transform the Salle de la Cité into a veritable temple of groove and flamboyance. Battles, fiery jams, performances and other surprises will set the tone for this joyful evening! Whether you’ve been hooked on whacking for years or are simply ready to discover the magnetic energy of this culture, come and experience a colourful, inclusive, electric and wildly stylish night.
