kinetic art | radio beams

recalls is an audiovisual installation paying tribute to radio relay towers, those concrete giants that dot the French landscape. A legacy of an era when radio relay beams were used for long-distance telecommunications, they now stand abandoned. They remain as technological relics, unwitting monuments to a recent past already forgotten, where the invisibility of the radio waves seems to have permeated the infrastructure itself. This installation follows on from the hertzian spirits project, in which radio waves are conceived as invisible presences, somewhere between technical phenomena and spectral forces.

Much like the 19th-century spiritualist community, which sought to communicate with the afterlife through machines, Lukas Persyn seeks to reveal these technical ghosts. Every day, our data, our voices and our digital presences pass through these networks. To reveal these infrastructures and the waves they carry is to begin to scrutinise organised opacity and question the issues at stake. What better than ghosts to reveal what we seek to hide?

This exhibition is not suitable for people who are photosensitive or prone to epileptic seizures.
